Build a weekly report from an existing task CSV

Define the minimum fields, map status meanings and check the reporting boundary before automating a weekly task summary.

Start with the export you already have

Before building another reporting template, inspect the task export you use today. Which column describes the task, and which records its status? Those are the minimum fields for the weekly kit. Owner, due date, priority and effort can add context when present, but automation cannot recover information absent from the source. Keep customer and employee details out of public examples.

Map meaning, not just labels

Imagine columns Work item and Stage, with values Ready, Doing and Complete. Mapping a header identifies where the data lives; mapping status values determines how the report interprets it. Agree what Complete means in your team before counting completed work. A saved mapping is reusable only while the export and its meanings remain compatible. Unknown values should trigger review, not a silent best guess.

Keep the reporting boundary explicit

Is this a current task snapshot or a history of changes during the week? A current CSV alone may not establish exactly when a task changed status. Do not label a current completed-task count as “tasks finished this week” unless the source supports that claim. Review a fictional sample and compare the summary with a few known records before sharing real output.

Choose a local workflow only if it fits

The paid kit runs on Windows with PowerShell 7.2+, maps a single CSV, and produces Markdown for human review. It does not join exports or send reports. Use the free effort calculator to quantify how often report preparation repeats. If you need live dashboards, historical analytics, or custom business calculations, this kit is not the right replacement.
