Shopify CSV checklist vs. local validator

Choose between a manual readiness review and record-level diagnostics without assuming either can guarantee a Shopify import.

Separate preparation from inspection

A checklist asks whether you have considered the main risks. A validator reads a file and reports the checks it implements. The first cannot tell you which record is malformed; the second cannot know every business intention or live-store condition. Use the free checklist if you need a preparation routine, not a file diagnostic report.

A concrete decision example

For a small export with one known price change, a careful manual comparison may be enough. For a recurring supplier file, you may instead want record positions and explanations of supported structural or field problems. ImportReady Catalog runs locally and offers findings, a TXT report, and a separately named safe-formatting output when eligible. It does not upload to Shopify or fetch images.

Normalization is not repair of business data

Removing a known header-edge space or standardizing a record separator is different from deciding a price or variant identity. The paid tool does not guess those values. Structural ambiguity blocks normalization, and remaining errors block its CSV download. Its stated caps and unsupported cases are part of the buying decision, not details to discover after purchase.

Keep the final store review

Shopify advises keeping a backup before an import. Its store preview remains a separate review step. No local checklist or scanner can certify the complete state of a live shop. Choose the free resource when preparation is the missing step; consider the paid tool when supported file diagnostics are recurring work. Do not buy it for inventory-location imports, image availability checks, or an import-success guarantee.
