Shopify CSV price error: check the value, then the record
Investigate an invalid or blank product price without blindly replacing prices or rewriting a production CSV.
Find the intended price before editing
Keep an untouched copy. Identify the product and variant associated with the reported problem, then compare that item with your intended price list. Do not turn an unknown price into zero just to remove an error. Zero can be a deliberate price, but it should be a business decision. A diagnostic tool cannot know the amount you intended to charge.
Check the price field and its position
Shopify documents numeric price fields without currency symbols. A fictional value of 19.99 is different from a display string such as USD 19.99. Older exports may use Variant Price while current guidance uses Price. Check the relevant template rather than renaming every header by guesswork. If the apparent price contains a description fragment, investigate the surrounding CSV structure before changing the number.
Do not confuse physical lines with CSV records
A quoted description may contain a comma or a line break. Counting visible lines or splitting each line at every comma can point you at the wrong value. For example, a description containing “Blue, soft cotton” belongs in one properly quoted field. Review a working copy using a CSV-aware editor; compare the product identity as well as the reported position.
Decide whether manual review is sufficient
For one known record, a careful edit and review may be enough. Use the free checklist to keep the surrounding preparation steps visible. ImportReady Catalog is relevant when recurring files need supported record-level diagnostics and a safe-formatting preview. It does not guess replacement prices or prove that an import will succeed. Recheck Shopify’s preview and your backup before a real import.
